Best Practices
Our clinic is committed to following audiometry Best Practices to ensure you receive the highest standard of personalised, life-changing hearing care.
What are Audiological Best Practices?
Audiological best practices refer to procedures and clinical protocols that are supported by research, and proven to lead to optimal patient outcomes. They encompass the full continuum of hearing care, from assessment to diagnosis to treatment and follow-up. Unfortunately, many clinics do not follow essential Best Practices which means that many individuals who wear hearing aids are not hearing their best. At Telex, it is our responsibility to uphold the highest standards in care through evidence-based best practices. These best practices not only guide our clinical decision-making but also ensure that patients receive effective, consistent, and compassionate care. Best practices are not just about performing tests correctly; they also emphasise patient-centred care, ongoing education, and the responsible use of technology.
What do Best Practices include?
1. Comprehensive Case History
A detailed case history helps us understand your hearing concerns, medical background, lifestyle, and communication needs.
2. Diagnostic Assessment
Accurate diagnosis relies on a full audiological evaluation, including: otoscopy, tympanometry & acoustic reflexes, pure-tone air & bone conduction, and speech audiometry. All testing is performed using calibrated equipment to ensure reliable results.
3. Hearing Aid Verification & Validation
Fitting hearing aids goes beyond programming - it involves testing their performance.
Verification uses objective tools like: Real Ear Measurements (REM), test box measurements and functional gain testing.
Validation checks your real-world benefits through: questionnaires (e.g., APHAB, HHIE, COSI), follow-up interviews and outcome measures
4. Patient Education & Ongoing Care
We provide hands-on training and ongoing support to help you adjust and succeed with your hearing aids. This includes: teaching use and care, regular follow-up visits and aural rehabilitation as needed.
5. Infection Control & Ethical Practice
We strictly follow hygiene protocols and uphold ethical standards to ensure safe, trustworthy care.
6. Documentation & Evidence-Based Care
Thorough documentation supports consistent care. We follow standardised protocols and stay up to date with the latest research to ensure effective treatment
