DAILY CARE & MAINTENANCE OF YOUR HEARING AIDS
Cleaning your Hearing Aids
Wipe your hearing aids with a soft dry cloth or tissue to remove ear wax oil and other debris. If your hearing aids have domes or tips, check for wax and, if visible, gently remove domes and clean with a cloth or tissue. Replace the tip every 3 months. Do not wash. If your hearing aid uses a wax filter, inspect daily and replace when required.
If your hearing aid uses thin tubing, detach the tube from the hearing aid adapter and use the cleaning stick or pipe cleaner provided to rod out any wax or debris.
For custom moulds use a wax pick or brush to clear openings/vents (an old soft bristle toothbrush is fine). If you have larger solid or silicone moulds with flexible tubing, it can be detached from the aid and washed if needed, blow out any excess moisture. If the tube cannot be removed from the hearing aid, contact the office as it may need replacing.
Store Safely
Remove your hearing aids before going to bed and store in their case or dry-aid kit (de-humidifier) to protect them from moisture and dust. For hearing aids with disposable batteries, remember to open the door to save battery life. For rechargeable hearing aids place them in the charger on the designated side. Clean the charging sockets occasionally with a cotton bud and store in a moisture free environment.
Battery Management
Your hearing aid will start beeping when it is low on charge. For disposable batteries, remove from the aid and dispose of as per instructions on packet. Remove sticker and allow it to air for one minute before insertion. Remember to take batteries with you when you are out for long periods of time or go on holiday.
If your hearing aid is rechargeable, it will take 2-3 hours for a full charge (depending on the model). If you forget, 45 minutes should get you out of trouble. If you go on holiday, remember to take the charger. A low voltage adapter, USB charger or power bank can be used for short periods of time.
INDUSTRIAL TESTING
Is your business ready to meet NSW WHS regulations?
To help prevent hearing loss, NSW legislation now requires employers to provide hearing tests for workers exposed to hazardous noise - a baseline test within 3 months of starting, and follow-up tests at least every 2 years. These requirements must be met before 1 January 2026.
Telex can help you stay compliant and protect your staff.
Our qualified practitioners provide efficient on-site employee testing in our mobile sound booth, minimising downtime and keeping your workplace running smoothly. We also offer full workplace noise assessments carried out by our accredited Noise Officer, with detailed reports and practical advice so you can be confident you’re meeting all WHS obligations.
