Hearing Assessments

1 in 6 Australians experience hearing loss.

According to the Australian Department of Health, 1 in 6 Australians are experiencing Hearing Loss. Having a hearing test helps to detect the early signs of hearing loss, so we can keep our hearing healthy for longer.

What will be included in my test?

Based on the results of your hearing tests, the practitioner will be able to determine if you have hearing loss, the severity of your hearing loss, and the best course of treatment for your individual needs. Our practitioners can provide your doctor with test results if needed and advise you on whether hearing aids would be helpful in improving your hearing.

  • The practitioner will ask you about your medical history and any hearing concerns you may have.

  • The practitioner will use an otoscope to examine your ear canal and eardrum for any signs of blockage, infection, or damage.

  • This test measures your ability to hear different frequencies or pitches of sounds. This is conducted in a sound booth to ensure accuracy, and while wearing headphones, you will listen and respond to a series of tones at different volumes and frequencies. Then bone conduction is tested, which measures how well sound travels through the bones of the skull. This helps us find your hearing threshold so we can determine if there is a loss, the degree of loss and if and how treatment may help.

  • This test measures your ability to hear and understand speech. You will listen to a series of words or sentences at different volumes, and you will repeat what you hear.

  • Depending on your individual needs, the practitioner may also perform additional tests to assess your hearing.

Please be assured that our staff will not tell you that you need hearing aids if we do not think you would benefit from them.

If you decide to proceed with hearing aids, we will go through all your options and discuss what device would be best suited to your clinical needs, lifestyle requirements and budget.

If you are eligible to receive Government assistance with the devices, we will explain your entitlements and assist you with the application process.

It is important to have your hearing tested regularly, especially if you are experiencing any hearing concerns or have a family history of hearing loss.
